Week 1: New Season, New Start Old friends pay our charts a visit |
![]() Hopefully, everyone reading this has already registered their label with the open league, and is ready to rise to the top with their well-selected roster. However, given the recent movement on the charts, that may be no easy task. Weeks back, there was no sign of the Gnarls/Furtado dam ever giving way, but that seems to be changing as we are seeing some familiar faces making their way up to the top spots. Beyonce is sitting pretty up at number 1 on the urban charts, Nickelback has taken over the number 2 spot on Hot AC, and Justin Timberlake has made his way to number 1 with "SexyBack" on CHR. The Alternative charts have some stand-outs this week; Blue October jumped up 6 spots to number 6, and Angels & Airwaves came up 7 to the number 3 spot. But the biggest mover this week? Country's Kenny Chesney, who stole 2nd place by rising a whopping 18 spots. Beck, John Mayer, and The Deftones have come back on the scene to mix things up a bit. The question is, will they be sticking around? I love all these guys, but I forsee Mayer possibly becoming a front-runner in the weeks to come. Diddy and Ne-Yo are two to watch in the Urban genre, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Nickelback aren't leaving anytime soon. So what does all this mean for you moguls out there? A little courage with your roster can lead to big earnings. If you've been maintaining an ok rank but haven't really gotten the results you were hoping for, get a little creative with your label and maybe take a chance on a newer artist. Or, if your faves are on multiple charts, switch them around and see what happens to your label. This is the perfect time to be making changes to your roster, so that you have as much time as possible to earn those bonuses. Happy playing!
