WK 4: Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off Make Believe |
![]() Man with a Memory Country heartthrob, Joe Nichols finds a 228 percent boost in revenue generation for his labels this week. You gotta admire a man who can have a hit single with, 'Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off.' His latest album, III is what he calls hardcore country music which reminds him of his youth and spending time with his father. During his meteoric rise to the top following two hugely successful albums, Man with a Memory and Revelation, Nichols lost his father to cancer. Nichols credits his current disc of positive, fun-loving tunes with helping him out of his grief and into life again. Back to Harvard One of the most widely held artist in the FML is the alternative-rock-pop band Weezer. Lead singer, River Cuomo recently revealed he taking his black horn rimmed glassed and is heading back to Harvard University this winter. He just needs to finish a few classes to graduate in June with a degree in English. The party-animals at Harvard won't be seeing Cuomo around the Cambridge bars anytime soon, since he is incredibly dedicated to a strict form of meditation which he began in June 2003. In addition, the man behind the hit Weezer album, "Make Believe" has also been celibate since '03, and says it contributes to the bands success. Gold Highlights This week some of you are seeing a Gold Record next to your artists. If you hold onto your artists and they stay on the eTrack charts for four weeks in a row you not only get a cool gold graphic but it signifies an additional 10 percent of the revenue for the past 4 weeks. Most of the folks in the Open League are feeling more reluctant to drop an artist now that they have attained gold. Some of the artists that are bringing in serious bling, for labels this week are Mariah Carey, Green Day, Gorillaz and Kanye West. FML Quick Hits The game is on, there is only 18K between labels Digital Roasters and Rivers739, our top two players in the Open League...Country beauty Gretchen Wilson is burning up the eTracks with 123 percent increase since last week...Coldplay is the artist most dropped this week followed by 'hollar-back girl', Gwen Stefani...while on the flip side, Bon Jovi and Paul Wall are the most signed performers. Broadway & Country Some of our favorite FML artists are joining the lineup for the Broadway Meets Country benefit happening a few days before the Country Music Awards. The concert which benefits the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund mixes it up with Country superstars and leading Broadway headliners. Some of our favorite pairings include Trisha Yearwood and Idina Menzel singing a number from "Wicked", and Carrie Underwood and Patrick Wilson dueting on "Suddenly Seymour" from "Little Shop of Horrors." Other Country artists set to sing on the 'great white way' include Trace Adkins, Billy Currington and Jamie O'Neal.
